Boris Johnson Backpedals on Heathrow Bulldozer claim

Uxbridge & South Ruislip Labour Party are disappointed and frustrated, but unsurprised, that Boris Johnson has again failed to represent his constituents by failing to vote on such a significant local and national issue.

Mr Johnson has publicly stated that he would, ‘Lie down in front of bulldozers’ to stop a third runway at Heathrow and has described it as ‘Undeliverable’. However, a local party member said, ‘We and many residents are used to our MP’s bold, brash words and lack of action and fully expected him to avoid Monday’s vote which would have meant compromising his personal position and ambitions. Faced with the options of representing local residents by voting against the government or choosing to run and hide, he has chosen the latter’.

Uxbridge & South Ruislip CLP would like to reiterate that we are firmly against a third runway at Heathrow. Further to the Hillingdon Labour local election manifesto and Peter Curling’s (Hillingdon Labour Group leader) letter to Mr Johnson earlier this week, we want a better Heathrow not a bigger one. Any further expansion would add to the already overcrowded skies in the borough, homes and communities would be destroyed, as well as a significant increase in noise and air pollution. This is unacceptable, as is Boris Johnson’s absence on the biggest local issue since he became our MP. This is why we will be at Westminster on Monday to hold him to account, making it clear that we have had enough of him failing to put words into action and represent his constituents.
